We are, after all, dealing with a generational game covering as much as 600 years of history. It is something we have wanted to do for a long time. The idea is to add some visual change to the clothes characters wear as the game progresses. This is not by mistake or oversight, but rather part of a new feature we call Fashion through the Ages. If you look closely at the screenshots of new armors above, you may notice that some of them appear to belong in different eras. Some examples of dynamic Coats-of-Arms on Surcoats in action! In the first image, we can see the old-style event animation: a static animated loop. This better communicates just how the characters feel about the event in question, and breathes more life into the game.
